The Blechnum Silver Lady, often celebrated for its elegant and lush foliage, is a striking fern species that captivates with its graceful beauty and easy-care attributes, making it a favored choice for both indoor and outdoor gardening enthusiasts. Originating from tropical and subtropical regions, this fern is distinguished by its fast-growing and upright habit, reaching heights that can vary significantly, from a modest 3 feet to an impressive 6 feet under optimal conditions.
The most captivating feature of the Blechnum Silver Lady is its foliage. The fronds, which can grow up to 3 feet in length, are a vibrant
green color, with a glossy sheen that catches the light, creating a visually stunning effect. The leaves unfurl from a central rosette,
resembling a shuttlecock in shape, which adds a unique architectural element to the plant's overall appearance. Each leaf is delicately
divided, with a slightly serrated edge that gives it a refined texture.
APPEARANCE : Also known as dwarf tree fern, this clumping understory subtropical fern is fast growing with elegant
finely-dissected arching fronds.
USE FOR : Tropical garden settings as a border or for creating depth using layers in under planting. Suited to
containers and indoor gardens.
CLIMATE : Protect from frost. Ferns thrive in humid conditions.
PLANTING: Plant carefully ensuring the crown of the fern is above the soil line. Will tolerate wet feet. Remove old
fronds to keep plants looking fresh and avoid disease. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks.
CARE: Keep moist during dry periods. Water every second day during dry periods. Apply a slow release fertiliser during
spring and a liquid based fertiliser every 4 weeks during the warmer months, take care to dilute your solution to half the recommended dose
to avoid burn. Re-pot every 2 - 3 years to keep soil fresh and full of nutrients. The best time to pot is in the cooler months when the
plant is dormant.
By bringing a Blechnum Silver Lady into your space, you're not just adding a plant; you're introducing a living piece of art that enhances
your environment with its beauty, versatility, and beneficial qualities.
